I’ve been going to anime/comic conventions for eight years, yet I still can’t explain what the significance of conventions are to people without having to go through a 20 minute explanation.  It’s truly a life changing experience, I can tell you that for sure!!  Here’s just a small example, but when I was younger I thought I was the only person on this planet that used Deviantart, until I attended Sakura Con.  I ended up collecting over 50 business cards that had their DA links that year, and I thought that was the just coolest thing to know that I was not alone.  Countless other moments had occurred that year where I met more and more people who knew of and appreciated the same things that I did.  So I hope most of you can relate to that feeling of absolute bliss and joy of attending a con.  uvu
Why do you like conventions?  I’d love to hear your stories!!

My first convention will be in July but when I went to a Renaissance Fair, a bunch of people were dressed up and greeting each other the correct time-period ways. We had gone on a trip so I had no outfit to bring but I think seeing everyone with such great costumes (even steam punk ones) really motivated me to want to go to Cons. :D

the people are the best part! when i go unsupervised my parents will tell me “dont talk to stangers!” when really alot of people at cons are the ones i trust the most. I feel more comfortable if i leave my bag with stangers at a con then strangers at school or a meeting.

this past katsucon i was dressed as pascal from tales of graces and some random guy called out “pascal! nice costume! happy valentines day!” and gave me a rice krispie treat. i told my mom when i saw her later that weekend and she said “well you threw it away of course” and when i told her i ate it she was horrified. i’d eaten food a complete stranger had given me and that was when i definitively realized just how different conventions are from the ‘real world’ and cemented my desire to do an ethnographic study of con culture

I would totally do that for a date lol

If someone did this for me for a date I would bang them on the spot under that masterpiece.
